"EVEN WITH ALL OUR CHALLENGES AND IMPERFECTIONS HE'S A GOD TO EVERYONE"
- DJ HINES
WHEN DJ HINES EXPLAINS THE REASON FOR HIS APPROACH TO OUTREACH IN HIS COMMUNITY, HE IS CLEAR, "CHURCH IS A PLACE FOR ALL PEOPLE, BUT PEOPLE DON'T NECESSARILY FEEL THAT WAY." PRESENTING THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST IS A NECESSARY EFFORT TO HIM AND HE WANTS HIS YOUNG NEIGHBORS TO KNOW GOD'S GRACE IS SUFFICIENT TO OVERCOME THEIR STRUGGLES. "EVEN WITH ALL OUR CHALLENGES AND IMPERFECTIONS, HE'S A GOD TO EVERYONE," HE ADDS.
It makes sense ,then, that he created REVERB, a Milwaukee based youth ministry derived from Christian Fellowship Church that is designed for those who don't feel traditional church is for them. Young people who come to these monthly gatherings can dress in jeans and flip-flops and can have the opportunity to hear from diverse guests like chart-topping rapper Mase on his transition from music to ministry.
The goal of REVERB is to be a bridge to help young adults attend church on a regular basis. DJ's inspiration came from having a social circle of spiritual friends who felt intimidated by church. He saw a need and his response came in the form of ministry with a message for young people: Think about where you come from and what you've been through. Keep God first and remember that HE is a God who welcomes you just as you are.
DJ's Christian roots go deep. He was raised in the Christian Faith Fellowship Church (CFFC) his mother and father founded 25 years ago in Milwaukee. He now oversees its day-to-day operations as Chief Operating OFficer. A critical part of the church's mission is to share God's love everywhere.
The name of DJ's youth ministry REVERB comes from the word reverberate which means having continuing effect or to have a far-reaching of lasting impact. May DJ's efforts to create a church where all are welcome reverberate throughout Milwaukee's adult and young adult populations and far, far beyond.
